THE START OF OUR FEAR FREE JOURNEY

We are proud to announce that Dr. Scott Jandron was one of the first veterinarians in the Upper Peninsula and Marquette County to become a certified Fear FreeSM veterinary practitioner. Like most veterinarians, for the last 25 years he has remained committed to practicing in a way that makes each visit as stress-free as possible for our patients. However, we know that there are always better and more advanced ways to serve both our patients and our clients. That is why Dr. Jandron took the challenge to get involved with this great organization of veterinarians and specialists that wish to improve upon the techniques that we have worked so hard to develop.

This is the first in a series of many blogs that will be related to the Fear FreeSM Certification initiative that was the brainchild of Dr. Marty Becker, one of our nation’s best known veterinarians. Known as “Fear FreeSM”, this training and certification program helps veterinarians and their staff to modify procedures, handling, and facilities to help pets feel safe and comfortable while receiving the medical care they need.

To become certified, veterinarians and veterinary staff are required to complete a comprehensive 8-part educational course with examinations. This program was developed by board-certified veterinary behaviorists, veterinary technician behavior specialists, board-certified veterinary anesthetists, well-known veterinary practice management experts, and boarded veterinary practitioners experienced in Fear FreeSM methods.

A long term approach. A lifestyle. Not a passing fad.

We look at the Fear FreeSM initiative as more of a way of life; a positive way of conducting ourselves in the veterinary setting. Our entire team at Northern Veterinary Associates has been committed to serving our patients at the highest level for many years. Fear FreeSM will allow us to improve upon the well-run facility that we already have. Some of the techniques Dr. Jandron learned are brand new. Many of the techniques are modifications of methods that our program already has in place.

Now that Dr. Jandron has completed his certification, our next goal is to get our entire team certified. This is a lengthy but fulfilling process of continuing education modules that are followed up with examinations. Each team member has to pass each module in order to become certified. Once certified, we will be required to take yearly continuing education modules and recertification tests. Our staff is extremely excited to take on this challenge! We have received incredible feedback from all of our team members. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful staff that is committed to improving how we serve our patients and clients.

We will be continuing this Fear FreeSM Blog Series over the next several months as our veterinary team goes through the process of becoming certified. We will be including many educational and entertaining articles, videos, and web-links that will help you become part of our team. We believe that each and every pet owner is a valuable part of the process of making veterinary visits Fear FreeSM for their beloved furry family members. We look forward to working with you to improve the veterinary visit for every owner and pet!
